New website! New blog! New everything!

I'm really excited about the launch of my new website!! www.weddingsbyheather.com

And click here to check out my new blog!

I will keep my current website live for the next few weeks... this blog, however, will remain active for quite some time. I want my future brides to be able to browse the 2005 archives.

Thanks to a very successful 2005, and the fact that I LOVE everything about weddings, I decided to focus my business only on couples in love. I have a true passion for wedding photography, and feel very fortunate to be living my dream. I am the luckiest person in the world!

I am especially excited about my new online proofing system. It's much more than just a way to deliver proofs to my clients, they can also view slideshows, order prints, browse albums, view album designs, etc. Please be sure to check out our product line.

Slideshows

I think I mentioned previously that I've been feverishly working on several initiatives prior to the 2006 wedding season. One of those initiatives is developing "sneak peek" slideshows for my couples to view when they return home from their honeymoon. I always post a few of my favorites to my blog a few days after the wedding, but I thought it would be fun to see a few more.

May 27, 2006 Brides!!

My May 27th bride had to change her date due to a family situation, so that date is once again available. I had several inquiries that I turned away for that date within the last few months, so if you're still looking, give me call!! Memorial day weekend is always one of the most popular dates of the year.

2005 Weddings

Now that things have finally settled down after the holidays, I'm starting to work on my "off-season" initiatives. I just finished designing my 2005 wedding album, which contains a panoramic spread of every wedding that I shot in 2005. I can't wait to get it and show my potential brides, I'm hoping that they love it as much as I do. And thanks to the advice from another photographer, I will be making this type of album every year. Should be fun! Below are two sample spreads from the album (click on the image for a larger view).

Happy Birthday Donnie

My brother Donnie would have been 38 years old today. He was killed in a tragic motorcycle accident in 1994 at the age of 26. I was 19, just about to turn 20, when I had to try to make sense of such a life changing event. After all this time, I can still say that I will never understand why things like this have to happen.

Donnie served in the Marines and spent the better part of 1991 in Kuwait City during Operation Desert Storm. We were so proud of him. Below is a picture of him during that time when he was unable to come home for Christmas.

I miss him more than words can describe, and think of him every day. Ironically, he's part of the reason that I got into photography. After his death, I realized that there were very few recent pictures of him or our family. I told myself that I would never let that happen again. I started snapping pictures like crazy and never looked back.

Donnie used to tell me all the time that only the good die young. So true.

Miss USA

As mentioned in my profile, I had the opportunity in May of this year to shoot with Huy (pronounced 'we') and Gary from f8studio. I had the most amazing time, these guys are among the best wedding photographers in the country. They were kind enough to have me tag along to Miss USA's wedding in Dallas Texas.

Here I am taking a picture of myself because I like to have fun!

This is Huy (in blue) and Gary shooting the first dance.

Huy took this of me later at the reception; with a camera around my neck and light pole in my hand, I still can't resist Dancing Queen!!

I also had the opportunity to meet Chris Jones of Mason Jar Productions, he was hired to film Huy and Gary in action for some promotional footage, which can be seen here.

Click here to see the short clip Chris took of me "working."

Check out the rest of the work Chris has posted, he is the best videographer I've ever seen. I hesitate to even call him a videographer since he is much more than that. Anyway, a few of my still images can be seen in the Miss USA video, and if you watch closely, you'll even see me in the background when Gary is shooting the formals of the bridal party.

Why am I posting about this now?? Who knows! I was emailing with Chris the other day, and that's the first time I had seen the promotional footage he shot in May.

You can see more of Kandace and Rob's wedding images here.

Erin & Darren - Part II

Found some more images that I really liked from Erin and Darren's wedding (see previous post). As I was editing the images, I really could not get over her eyes, and I love they way the light was hitting them in this one.

I had to laugh when I saw this gem because I was not real thrilled with the harshness of the sun hitting the back of the church, but it actually reflected off of one of the doors and gave me that sparkle next to Elena's neck. I think it's cool!

I also loved Erin's white hydrangea's, definitely one of my favorite flowers!
